Great! You're ready to find employment at home.
What are the basic needs?
ALL work at home companies expect you to have at least:
1. Windows XP some allow Vista but check with the company.
2. High speed internet connection (DSL or Cable only – Please Note: Satellite or dialup are not approved for most companies)
3. Most require a landline phone
4. Telephone headset to be connected to the phone, others require a USB headset, be sure to check with the company you are interested in of their requirements. You can purchase these after you are hired.
*** 5 *** IT IS A MUST THAT YOU HAVE NO BACKGROUND NOISE! ~ Like small children, or barking dogs. If you have small children make sure there is someone there to care for them while you are working or pick hours at night after they have gone to bed.
Some companies require that you get a free scan of your PC from "PC Pitstop". I have used this online program since the late 1990's and love it. It runs a series of tests on your computer and tells you how to fix it, or in some cases can fix it for you. Why not get it done before your asked. Again this is FREE and SAFE!
Other items I find handy are:
1. Paper and pencil or a small Dry-erase board – sometimes it is easier to write down the question then search for the answer, this way if you are working with a client or customer you don’t have to ask them to repeat themselves. A small dry-erase board is great for saving money and dealing with sensitive information!
2. A Calculator – again this is great if you are working with clients or customers no matter what line of business.
3. Training Manuals – Keep a copy of your training manuals near by – even if the company didn’t send you training manuals you can still print the manual pages as you learn online. If the online training pages are in “Flash” format use CTRL + P to print the page. This is a great reference if the client or customer has a question you don’t know right away.
4. Spare phone/headset – if for some reason your phone or headset decides not to work, you can quickly exchange them without missing work to get a new one!
